Out of the road you don't have that. The cars are parrel. Other than the rarest of rare accidents, the risk is when cars are turning, at an intersection like that. The risk isn't being on the sidewalk here but when that sidewalk is on the road. This intersection needs a redesign, not bollards.

There are so many poorly designed intersections and pedestrian crossings. A shift to blaming design for accidents would be very welcome.

I was there once for a BMX event but unfortonatly didn't get a chance to see much else. I think the British created several King's Towns...Kingston.
Some of these problems are unfortonatly quite universal. Just observe how many bullards are bent and scratched to get an idea of it.
